It’s another application we’ve developed for Svenska Dagbladet, one of Sweden’s largest daily newspapers.

Presenting, SvD Reseguider!

The application at the moment contains 18 of SvD’s popular travel guides in a handy mobile format. Some of the features:

18 of SvD’s travel guides easy accessible from the application. The process of bying guides done streamlined with the iPhone’s In App Purchase system. The cost for prices are the lowest price current available on App Store, 7 SEK. One guide, Barcelona, is included for free.

When bought, the content of the guides are stored locally on the device, no need to worry over mobile data plans while abroad.

Detailed information about many points of interests, such as restaurants, museums, stores, etc. Including opening hours, phone numbers, homepages and more.

Built in Google Maps with all points of interests marked out (note that Google Maps requires internet connectivity).

Share points of interests with others via Facebook or Twitter. Let your friends know what you’re up to on your trips.

The application, including the Barcelona guide, is available for free on the App Store.

Way to go Playtones!

Yesterday, something great happened. The Playtones, won the final on Dansbandskampen on Swedish TV. They can now brag with the title “The best dance band in Sweden”.

So, what’s that got to do with Appcorn, you might ask… Well, amongst the five artists in The Playtones, we find our very own Mattias “Masse” Schertell. Masse has been our teacher and tutor during our three years on BTH in Karlshamn. We’re very happy for all the guys in The Playtones and wish you all the luck you can get in the future!

Merry Christmas!

Yup, it’s already that time of the year again. Time flies by in Karlshamn, and we at Appcorn are now officially on a small christmas break. Looking back on 2009, we can clearly state that running your own company is both hard and challenging but in the same time exciting and very rewarding. It feels like there’s nothing that the four of us (and our intern David!) would rather do at this point in our life. We’d like to take the opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

Christian, Magnus, Martin and Niklas

24 hour business camp

Even though we officially did not attend to last weeks 24 hour business camp, we had quite a precense. First off, one of our upcoming projects was revealed as part of a presentation. It’s an idea we’re working on together with Mobilab, the mobile development team run by the swedish media companies TV4 and Expressen. We don’t have alot of information to reveal for you at the moment, but you can read the small presentation (swedish) of the project on the 24 hour buisiness camp site.

But that’s not all. In a kind of spontanious gesture, we got invited to join the group of 24 hour business camp participants who worked from Malmoe. We didn’t have alot of time on our hands, but one of us, Magnus, managed to get on the train and participate the entire event. The result of his contribution was the Lokaliker iPhone application. Magnus worked together with the other members of the Lokaliker team who managed to produce applications for iPhone, Android and web browsers in only 24 hours.

And today, Lokaliker was the winner of Peoples Vote on 24 hour business camp! Even though this victory doesn’t mean any fancy price or so, we congratulate the Lokaliker team for the feat. You managed to put together a really cool service in no time, and you deserve all the attention you can get.

Here are some screenshots of the iPhone application for Lokaliker developed by Magnus.

Yay! Open source!

Today we’re taking some baby steps towards one of the goals of our company. We’re releasing some of the source code we use to make our applications open source for the world to use, free of charge, licensed under the MIT license.

The two iPhone-classes we’re releasing are not very complex nor extremely fancy, but they mark the start of something much larger. We’ve learned very much from the open source community, and this is our way of giving something back to all the developers out there.

If you’re interested in the code we’re releasing on GitHub. The two iPhone-classes released today are called ACBenchmarkHelper and ACActivityIndicatorQueue and can be downloaded, edited, redistributed, you name it!

Screenshot from the execution results of ACBenchmarkHelper, a simple class to benchmark your iPhone or Mac applications.

This is only the beginning for our work with open source code. Make sure to follow us on our blog and on twitter if you want more :-)

Another application for the iPhone: SvD Quiz!

Today we received news that our second iPhone application just went online on the iPhone App Store! We’re happy to present to you, SvD Quiz!

The application is an iPhone version of SvD.se’s web quizes that we’ve been working on together. Some features:

Choose from the 100 quizes delivered with the application, new quizes can be downloaded from the application as they are released.

Watch your results with details of how other users have answered on the questions.

Full offline support. Bad cell coverage on the subway? On an iPod touch? You can have the full experience anyway!

Challenge or recommend quizes to your friends.

Track your own progress, and compare it with other users in the statistics view.

The application is available for 7 SEK on the App Store.

Marketing plans and camping

The days passes fast here at the Appcorn office. We’ve been working hard on our latest iPhone release, marketing plans for our company and we have visited Sweden Social Web Camp.

Appcorn at SSWC 09 (Photo: frebro)

Sweden Social Web Camp was an exciting weekend on the island Tjärö, just a couple of minutes from our office in Karlshamn. We met lots of new people, got new ideas, and even a couple of business proposals (more about that in the future…).

The team on the front page of Commersen

On SSWC, we also talked to a couple of reporters and Martin got interviewed for a podcast by Webbradion. Other than that, we also made an iPhone application for the event, which many of the people at SSWC appreciated very much! We’ll be sure to talk more about the SSWC iPhone App and the possibilities it brings in the future.

This monday, we will also finally get started on the work with our new company style guide. We have collected a few friends with a good sense of colors and design, and will be brainstorming ideas for a logotype, business cards, webpage design, documents… you name it!

Appcorn in the media

It’s only wednesday, but boy, isn’t this week just something! This monday both BLT and Sydöstran, two regional newspapers, interviewed us regarding our company and the Blocket iPhone application. To our surprise, we made the front page (or, to be more precise, the swedish phenomenon löpsedeln) on both newspapers! You can read the articles here and here.

Martin with the two newspapers

This morning, Magnus also got interviewed by the local radiostation SR P4 Blekinge. You can listen to his interview about 10 minutes from the start of their broadcast (or if you’re on a mac, like us, you can use this link directly in VLC).

Magnus in the SR studio

Blocket For iPhone and It's Only the Beginning...

Yesterday, our first creation went live on Apple’s App Store. It’s the project we’ve been working on together with Blocket.se for a while now. The Blocket application is a fully featured iPhone client for the very popular Swedish classified advertising site www.blocket.se. It includes features such as:

A solid search function with possibilities to specify the search parameters that are available at www.blocket.se (such as mileage for cars, area for apartments, etc).

Automatic located search with the help of GPS

Ability to call or mail the seller directly from the application

Create your own ads directly from the application, including choosing images or taking photos within the application.

And much, much more…

The reception of the application has been very good during it’s first day on App Store. We’ve seen a lot of positive feedback and the application is already at #1 in Free Apps in Sweden! At the time of writing this, the application has 4,5 out of 5 stars in the review, something we’re very proud of.

There has also been a lot of attention along with the release. With the position Blocket.se has in Sweden, it’s not a big surprise for us though.

The Blocket iPhone application is available for free on the App Store, try it out you too!

Appcorn goes camping!

The swedish blog and podcast site What’s Next is bringing sweden one of this years most interesting events. We’re talking of course about Sweden Social Web Camp 2009. All of us at Appcorn were lucky and got hold of four of the last tickets to the event.

We’re also going to code an iPhone application for the event that we will hand out via Ad-Hoc distribution at the event. More information about the application will be presented in the coming week.

We have more exciting news to share with you in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned, and make sure to say hi at SSWC next weekend!
